Welcome and Supplies List

Welcome to the wonderful, imaginative world of fort building with the Deeply Rooted Fort Kits.  We use some specific terminology to refer to different components of our kits.  See the unboxing video below to see what is included in your kit, and what we call each item.

Safety

Some things to keep in mind while building and playing with your new fort kit.

Skills

We've designed our fort kits to grow with your over time.  As you build forts, you will be building skills that allow you to use the elements of the fort kit in new and exciting ways.  There are just a few foundational skills that you will need to practice before your first build.  Don't worry - they are very easy!

The A Frame

And now what you've been waiting for! It's time for your first build with the Deeply Rooted Fort Kit.  In this video, we will walk you through the basic steps of building the A-Frame Fort.

And here's another video with Leah, our 9 year old, completing the A Frame Build

We know how frustrating it is trying to fit tents and tarps back into their bags.  Here's a video showing our strategy for putting away the tarp, and a little bonus on "hanking" your long ridgeline to keep it tangle free and easy to deploy.

The Lean-To

After you've built the A-Frame, the next style of fort to build is the lean to.  The lean-to provides great wind or sun protection from one side.

The Plow Point

The plow point can be built with just one anchor.  One side of the ridge line is attached high on the anchor, and the other side is attached to the ground.  This fort can be very cozy, and provide protection for the elements.

Bonus Skills

When you are ready, incorporate these bonus skills into your build.  The knots and strategies shown below will allow you to build all the fort styles shown above with only paracord - no need for the special tensioners included in the kit.  And, if one of the pre-tied bowlines should come loose, you'll know how to retie it.  Use these skills and come up with your own fort designs!  Show us what you've made!
